instrument that ultrasonic sound waves (mechanical vibrations with frequencies above 20 kHz) to detect the presence of an object and\/or determine its distance in a non\u2011contact manner. Its propagation must rely on a medium (such as air, water, or solids) and cannot occur in a vacuum. When a sound source (for example, an ultrasonic transducer) vibrates, it causes periodic compression and rarefaction of the surrounding medium particles, thereby forming a longitudinal wave that propagates through space.<br>One key characteristic of sound is its frequency, which refers to the number of vibrations of a sound wave per second, measured in hertz (Hz). The typical frequency range of sound waves perceptible to the human ear is approximately 20 Hz to 20 kHz, though individual sensitivity varies.<br>When the frequency of a sound wave exceeds 20 kHz, it is referred to as <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ultrasound\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u8d85\u58f0\u6ce2<\/a>.
